Be the change

People say things. Stupid things. All the time. If I wasn’t careful my eye rolling would cause a permanent medical condition. Fortunately I’m getting better at tuning them out.
With the exception of one phrase…I hate it.
“People suck.”
No. They. Don’t. Please stop.

I’ve posted about this before. But I need to again.

99% of people are good. It’s the 1% that make the news and if all we watch is the news, and not Main St. America then we are not going to know the truth. The truth is found in the local tavern, told over the back fence with neighbors, the local coffee shop, at the water cooler at work. People are for the most part good at heart, they are just easily manipulated because they are, at their very heart, Human. Humans make mistakes, we’re not perfect.

I have had a person donate a vital organ to me. I have seen people with only ten dollars in their pocket donate 5 of it to a charity dear to them. I’ve known people who have toiled in a soup kitchen or food pantry every single weekend of the year without looking for so much as a thank you. I could go on. But I won’t. You get the point.

If you can’t find a good person, then be one.

People do not suck. We need to stop saying it.

  1. People are good.. It’s the way they act and react to certain things…
we might hate some people and we at times don’t know reason to it we just hate… that’s where we might wanna correct ourselves or other who do so
    Great work!!

  2. With you all the way Billy. The minority always spoil it for the majority. We don’t have a TV so don’t watch the news other than via the internet. Hubby looks at foreign news programmes rather than the biased view of the UK press, and if I listen to news on the radio, I am stunned by what they term as important and newsworthy. Some of the headlines I see via email log ins are laughable, the latest being a 16 month old baby suing the press for taking a photograph (no comment as to who are the parents). You are right, people do not suck, but there are bad apples amongst us, and those are the ones I try to avoid.

  3. I’ve found that we can see the same thing from totally different perspectives. The same problem would affect us differently during different times in our lives. So whenever I start to think ‘people suck’, I know there’s something I need to work on myself first. Thanks for this post!

  4. Believe it or not, I have been of like mind, or very different mind myself lately. I have actually said, “I hate people”, which is not like me at all. I don’t think it is in me to actually HATE anything, but I have disliked people more than liked them lately. I don’t consider my self overly smart, and I know I make mistakes All. the. time. , but I acknowledge that I don’t know everything, and that I make mistakes all the time. I also accept that it is ok (welcomed) to be different. I do not and don’t think I will ever think that disrespect, name calling and / or putting others down is ok…unfortunately, I see more of that than the other. I know that I can’t change people, so each day I will en devour to be the person I hope other people aspire to be. I will continually raise my own personal bar to be a better person, but I can’t hide from the truth…. that even good people do bad things 😦
